Who Are We?
Hi! We are Carrig Spirit Team.
The theme of our project is "Community Spirit". Collectively, our group wanted to make a piece of socially engaged art that would help promote and drive community spirit within Carrigtwohill in some shape or form. We found that when looking into and evaluating our own experiences within our individual communities, we were unsure how to go about becoming active citizens that have the abilities to help make lasting, impactful changes. This is why we teamed up with the Carrigtwohill Community Council to help us with our goal. In learning what steps residents can take, we hope to highlight, assist and empower the Carrigtwohill residents to make the leap.
"Carrig residents need to be encouraged and empowered to join the council and bring their individual experiences and insights to the table in order to impact the wider diverse community. "
We got the chance to talk with Brian O'Reilly, among a few other members of the council, who helped us grasp what it's like to be a part of the community council, as well as how they contribute to and help the wider community as a whole.
With their insights, we learned so much about what the council does and the rewarding aspects of being a part of this organisation, all of which we hope to highlight for you too! Within further discussions, it was also brought to our attention that the least represented demographics within the council are the younger generation as well as new Irish members of the community. This is why we have decided to make a series of promotional posters to help encourage community members to join the council in the next up and coming election.

We also made two infographics that both, explain the great work the council does for Carrigtwohill, while also showing you how to join and vote for new council members when the next election comes around!
