Humans of Carrigtwohill

Our Project

“Humans of Carrigtwohill” is a digital socially engaged art project focused on the community of Carrigtwohill. The project is based around the themes of identity and inclusion. Carrigtwohill is a very diverse community with a huge range of nationalities, and with both old and new members of the community so it was created a place for people to be able to share their different experiences of life within this area.

The "Humans of Carrigtwohill" project was inspired by “Humans of New York”, a photoblog and book created by Brandon Stanton. It is about sharing the different experiences of people living in New York and connecting with strangers on a deeper level than you normally ever would. We wanted to try and recreate this on a smaller scale with the people of Carrigtwohill. Unfortunately, we couldn’t physically go to Carrigtwohill to interview people on the streets due to the restrictions, but we were able to host our interviews over Zoom.

Virtual Workshops

To help find participants for our workshops we created some posters which we shared on social media.

We interviewed four participants in our Zoom workshops about their experiences living in Carrigtwohill. We spoke with two participants from Ireland - one who had lived in Carrigtwohill their whole life and another who moved there from a different area. We also spoke to two migrants who are living in Carrigtwohill, and it was so interesting to hear about the wide range of expriences of people living there. We used a Google Jamboard activity as an icebreaker in our workshop on “What does community mean to you in one word?” and we got some really nice answers.

Google Jamboard Activity we used in our workshop about community

Our participants were able to give us some great insights into their experiences with identity and inclusion, and with general life within the community of Carrigtwohill. From their interviews, we are creating a “Humans of Carrigtwohill” blog and Instagram account to share their stories and to create a space for people to connect through their experiences.

Social Media Campagin

We posted on Instagram and Facebook in order to gain traction towards our blog and our project. We managed to gain a good amount of interaction on our social media accounts and we were followed by some different clubs and groups in Carrigtwohill.
